Nucleus Winery at Fort Borstal
High on the chalky slopes of historic Fort Borstal, a new chapter is being written – one rooted in tradition, passion, and a little sparkle. Here, where the soil shares the same chalk terroir as France’s Champagne region, we have planted 20,000 vines of the three noble grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. These are the very grapes that have given the world’s most celebrated sparkling wines their elegance for centuries.
Every vine has been placed with care, but one holds a story close to our hearts. The first vine planted was named Serge, in loving memory of Sergejs – a friend whose spirit and joy live on in the vineyard’s beginnings. Serge stands as a reminder that wine is not just about the land and the grapes, but about the people and moments that shape it.
Our ambition is to create wines that carry the purity of our chalk hills, the finesse of our chosen varieties, and the warmth of the people who brought this vineyard to life. In time, each bottle will tell the story of Fort Borstal – a story of place, of heritage, and of the promise held in every vine.
